Privacy policy

This policy explains what NovelTL (the website at noveltl.app and the NovelTL browser extension) collects, why, and what you can do about it. We collect as little as we can to run the service.

What we collect

• Account details. Your email address, and if you sign in with Google or Discord, the basic profile identifier those services share with us.
• Chapter text you ask us to translate. When you click Translate chapter, the extension sends the text of that page to our server. It is used to produce your translation and is not stored in raw form.
• Your translations. We keep each translation in your account so re-reading it is free. Only you can see it.
• Chapter metadata. On supported sites, the extension reports novel titles, chapter numbers, chapter titles and links. This powers release alerts and each novel's glossary. It never includes chapter text.
• Glossary terms. Names and terms found while translating (for example a character name and its English form) are added to a glossary shared by all readers of that novel. These are not linked to you.
• Credits and purchases. A history of credits added and used. Payments are handled by Stripe; we never see or store your card number.
• Usage and error data. Product analytics (PostHog) and error reports (Sentry) from the website, such as pages visited, buttons used, browser type and approximate location from your IP address.

What the extension can see

The extension only runs on the supported novel sites listed in its store listing and on noveltl.app. It reads a page only to detect a chapter and, when you ask, to translate it. It does not read your browsing history, other tabs or other sites.

Who we share data with

• OpenRouter and the AI model provider it routes to, to translate chapter text you submit.
• Supabase for our database and sign-in.
• Stripe to process payments.
• PostHog and Sentry for analytics and error monitoring.
• Vercel to host the website and API.

We do not sell your personal information or use it for advertising.

How long we keep it

We keep your account data, translations and credit history while your account exists. Payment records may be kept longer where tax or accounting law requires it. Analytics and error data are kept for up to 12 months.

Your choices and rights

• Delete your account at any time from the account page. This permanently removes your translations, credits, follows and sign-in record.
• Ask for a copy of your data, or for a correction, by emailing privacy@noveltl.app.
• Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK or California), you may have further rights such as objecting to processing. Email us and we will respond within 30 days.

Children

NovelTL is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will update the date above and tell signed-in users by email.
